Presented by Giovanni Bietti, one of Italy’s most esteemed speakers on music and a famous radio personality (Lezioni di Musica on Rai-Radio-Tre), the Lezioni di Opera initiative examines the various works in the Teatro dell’Opera programme: the historical context and the musical and dramatic contents of each opera are explained so that everyone – from the aficionado to the novice – can enjoy the performance and appreciate every nuance. However, Bietti’s analysis goes further than the individual opera. In fact, each opera can also be read as the composer’s own answer of the day to the questions and the difficulties that opera – the “multimedia” genre par excellence – has always posed: the relationship between words and music, sound and stage, convention and innovation.
