The success of “Billy Budd” by Britten goes on all over the world

After winning the International Opera Award and the XXXVII Premio Abbiati for the best direction in 2018 the show, on stage at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in May 2018, has been awarded at the Olivier Awards 2020 as the best new opera production.

Billy Budd directed by Deborah Warner is a production of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma with the Teatro Real di Madrid and the Royal Opera House in London.

At the Teatro Costanzi the opera by Britten, inspired by the short novel by Herman Melville, was conducted by James Conlon. The set design is signed by Michael Levine, the costumes design by Chloe Obolensky, the lighting design by Jean Kalman, and the choreography by Kim Brandstrup. Among the performers Phillip Addis (Billy Budd), Toby Spence (Edward Fairfax Vere), John Relyea (John Claggart).
