Cecilia Ligorio

Stage director, playwright, and librettist. She directs the world premiere of La vita nuda by Matteo D’Amico. After completing her musical studies and training as an actress at the “Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica Silvio d’Amico” in Rome and the “Institut del Teatre” in Barcelona, she earned a master’s degree in Music and Theatre Studies from the University of Milan. Her repertoire ranges from Baroque and bel canto to contemporary music. Among her main productions are Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Apollo et Hyacinthus, and Re Pastore; Rossini’s Semiramide, L’italiana in Algeri, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mosè in Egitto, and La Cenerentola; Scarlatti’s Mitridate Eupatore; Verdi’s Rigoletto and Otello; Puccini’s Turandot and Madama Butterfly; Spontini’s Fernand Cortez; and Pizzetti’s Assassinio nella cattedrale. In the field of contemporary music, she has staged Else by Gardella, Shi and Oltre la Porta by Boccadoro, Sweet Silence in Cremona by Scarcella, Tanger Amor Mío by Tola and Gloksinck, and Haydar Tanz by Tola. She has also overseen the artistic coordination of Rigoletto directed by John Turturro and Bastarda, based on Donizetti’s Tudor tetralogy, directed by Olivier Fredj. She has directed productions for numerous Italian and international theatres and festivals, including Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro dell’Opera di Firenze, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatri di Reggio Emilia, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, Teatro Verdi in Salerno, Macerata Opera Festival, Festival della Valle d’Itria, and Teatro Poliziano in Montepulciano, as well as La Monnaie in Brussels, Oper Köln, Opéra Royal de Liège, Neuköllner Oper in Berlin, Théâtre des Variétés in Paris, and Bare Opera in New York. Her curiosity for contemporary music has also led her to collaborate as a librettist with composers such as Carlo Boccadoro, Giovanni Sollima, and Federico Gardella, with works published by Ricordi, Sonzogno, and Suvini Zerboni.
