Fayçal Karoui

Born in Paris in 1971, he studied piano and orchestral conducting at the conservatoires of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés and Paris, where he was awarded first prize in conducting. Thanks to an “Aïda” scholarship, he became assistant to Michel Plasson at the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, a position he held until 2002, gaining solid experience in both the symphonic and operatic repertoire. In 2002 he was appointed principal conductor of the Orchestre de Pau Pays de Béarn, with which he developed an artistic project centred on interpretative quality, outreach to new audiences, and musical education. From 2006 to 2012 he served as music director of the New York City Ballet, strengthening his international profile in the choreographic repertoire and collaborating with leading choreographers and ballet companies. From 2012 to 2014 he was music director of the Orchestre Lamoureux in Paris, further expanding his work in the French symphonic repertoire. As a guest conductor he has been invited by numerous prestigious orchestras across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, establishing himself as one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. His interest in fostering dialogue between music, dance, and young audiences has led him to develop educational projects and promote initiatives aimed at disseminating classical music. Throughout his career he has received major distinctions, including being named Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and receiving an award from the Académie des Beaux-Arts, honours that recognise both his artistic achievements and his continued commitment to musical outreach. Active between France, Europe, and the United States, he pursues an intense career spanning symphonic repertoire, ballet, and collaborations with international orchestras.
